| 6 older and 6 brand new shots added Feb 1, 2002! (3 new pics added August 22, 2001) Way back in about 1995 or 1996, Ron showed me some Polaroid pictures he had taken, and I was captivated by the medium for stop-action photography. Shortly thereafter I began what has become the 'Shake The Head Series" which is where I usually aim the camera at myself at arms length, shake my head violently from side to side while relaxing my facial muscles, and take a shot at random. As you will see from the pictures here, this produces many effects. Some of them are enormously funny looking, others look like the subject is dead, and still others look fairly normal... but off a bit somehow. Because the outcome is never EVER flattering, it takes a certain amount of self mockery or modesty to submit oneself to this process. Not only is there a hard visual after the fact, but just the process of taking the picture is funny in itself. Therefore it has been difficult if not impossible to get certain others to participate. However, in this collection I have provided many of myself, and a few taken of others. Some of them are even multiples, which present a special risk when capturing: the subjects run the risk of slamming their heads into one another. Some of the very best pictures from this series are missing as of first posting them. As soon as I find them, and as I gather more, I will post them. If you feel like participating in this series, by all means, be my guest. Take the pictures, and send me the one/ones you would be least uncomfortable having posted here. |
