In 2002 Minetta Brook and the Whitney Museum showed several
films projected onto the Holland Tunnel Vent building. This photograph
shows a portion of the film "Erection" by John Lennon and Yoko Ono. An
appropriate film for me to have photographed, as the film is a time-lapse
movie of a building being erected. What I didn't notice when I took the shot
was the pylons in the foreground which had been carved by someone
into mini totem poles. This photograph has a companion in the AE-1 section
of this web site entitled "Serra" which is a photograph taken during the
showing of the film "Railroad Turnbridge" by Richard Serra. The city in the
background of this photograph is Jersy City. Directly behind this vent building,
on the other side of the river, is a mirror-image vent building which I have
